Step 1. Identification of “Bioactive” Compounds
The first step to building an effective product is to identify novel compounds that have beneficial effects on skin cells. DermaMedics’ “bioactive” compound was discovered by utilizing a proprietary cell and molecular biology drug screening strategy, unique to DermaMedics. Step 2. Therapeutic Formulation Development
Once a “bioactive” is identified from the drug screening program it must be formulated into a stable topical product that: 1) is compatible with the “bioactive”, 2) doesn’t cause the “bioactive’s” degradation, 3) contains a concentration of “active” that is high enough to exert the desired biological effect on target cells in the epidermis and dermis, 4) is fast-absorbing with a non-greasy and non-tacky feeling on the skin, and 5) facilitates the movement of the bioactive across the surface of the skin and down many cell layers to reach the damaged cells. Step 3. Topical Formulation Testing For Skin Penetration
After a suitable topical formulation has been developed, it must then be tested to determine: 1) how FAST each “active” penetrates into the skin, 2) how MUCH “active” penetrates into the skin, and 3) how LONG a single application of product will continue to provide “active” throughout the skin to treat damaged cells.
